During this last summer, this was my jam. It's so fun, great to listen to in the car, and made me feel okay with the fact that I am a poor college student.
One of the best Christmas songs ever + The Fray = A+. As it is my last day of final and I'm trying to concentrate on a paper, I am listening to my Chill/Homework playlist and since it is almost Christmas I added a few Chill/Christmas songs in there. This is the best one... so far.
Alright, one more song for the night.... This song is one of my favorites by John Mayer. So good, so chill, and one that I think more people should know.
I saw Train in concert a few springs ago and let me tell you, they were awesome. Here is my favorite song by them that is another one that will never not be good.
Recall the Crazy Lady from a few posts ago? Well, that was the same concert as the time I saw Augustana. They were the most chill, sounding exactly like their albums band ever. They were amazing and Sweet and Low is one of their best songs!
So I am supposed to be studying for a test I need to take tonight... So I thought I'd share another song I absolutely love instead. It's super chill and is perfect for riding in the car, studying, falling asleep, to get you in a good mood... And pretty much anything else you can think of.
Once upon a time, I was waiting for a concert to start. It was a general admission concert, which means you have to stand people that either smell, scream really loud, sing awfully, or you want to punch. It sucks, but you just have to deal with it because you know the concert will be worth it. And here is how this specific evening played out...
Me: (thinking) Ok cool, we're not by any crazy people this time!
Crazy Lady - who I'm sure is a great person: (talking to her kids around her and anybody that would pay attention to her) Guys, I am so excited for this opening band! I don't even care about the main people, I'm only here for them!! And their album was just released on iTunes today so that's all I've been listening to!!!
Me: (thinking) And... I was wrong.
Crazy Lady: This is going to be the best concert ever!! As soon as they are finished I am going to run to the tables in the back so I can meet them and get a picture with them, this is going to be so amazing!
Me: so unamused right now.
Crazy Lady: (while walking in front of me) Hey, sorry, I am just obsessed with Graffiti6...
Me: (thinking) oh that's who the opening band is going to be...
Crazy Lady continued: and as soon as they are finished I'll get out of your way they are just my favorite band ever!
Me: Yeah, sure that's fine.
-band is announced, comes on stage, and one of the guys starts playing guitar-
Crazy Lady: (interpretive dancing all over the place.)
Me: (whispering to my friend) Let this be over.
-the first song gets started-
Me: (staying chill, but no longer judging the crazy lady) (thinking) this is the best band I ever have been or will be going to.
Formerly Percieved Crazy Lady: (belting all of the songs and yelling how much she loves them.)
Me: (in shock of how much I instantly love them, also now enjoying the lady's interpretive dancing because it was ridiculous.)
Moral of the story:
-Even though standing in a crowd of people for hours isn't the greatest thing ever, it's worth it when the band is amazing.
-I have never just stood there with no emotion on my face for that amount of time, but enjoying myself 100% at the same time.
-Sometimes Formerly Percieved Crazy Ladies can have great taste in music.
-Graffiti6 may or may not have been all I listened to straight for the following month.
Even though this is a super strange music video... the music is great.
One Direction, I know what you're thinking. 5 minute no judgement zone is all I'm asking for.
Basic idea of this song - girls have insecurites. News right? But what the song is saying, is that even though you may have these insecurities or things you don't like about yourself, it doesn't matter. All of the things that make you up are what make you the person that you are.
Ed Sheeran actually was the one that wrote this song, when he was only 17, so obviously it's worded a little more elequently than I could ever hope to attempt.
Two Door Cinema Club is one of those bands that everyone should know about. Never heard of them before? Well now is the time. Here is one of my favorites from them...
Such a solid song. Main idea - He doesn't like the idea of media shaping people, they should shape themselves. Youth need to find their own identity, and not do what other are doing just for the sake of fitting in.
Sounds good to me! Plus Gavin DeGraw is probably one of the sassiest males on Earth. I love it.
This is a bold statement I'm about to make, but I'm gonna say it. Steve Moakler is one of my top 3 favorite artists. I can't tell you why, there is just something about his songs that I absolutely love. Hopefully this song backs me up on this...
Hesitate was the second song I heard by dear old (but not really) Steve. The first song I heard was pretty good so I decided to listen to more of his songs and I chose this one and BAM. I was done for.
I will probably never see him in concert, but if he ever ventures to the dear old state of Utah you better believe I will be first in line. Until that day happens...
And here's a cool acoustic version he did in one take..
I saw Jack's Mannequin in concert along with The Fray in the summer of 2009. It was my third concert (I think...) and to this day it is still one of my favorites. Seriously so good.
MFEO (Made for Each Other) is one of my favorite songs by them. The original track actually has two songs put into one. MFEO is part one and part two is called You Can Breathe. It's kind of long, but it's worth listening to the whole thing!
Well, I was getting ready to retire the laptop tonight when Chasing Cars ended, and what was after that song you ask? Another chill, relaxing, take that English I am done with you song.
Andrew Belle is fantastic, and so is this song, featuring the lovely Erin McCarley who is also fantastic.
So if you've never heard this song I don't know where you've been for the last six years, but welcome.
It has been a long night. Yes, I know it is only 11 o'clock but English class kills me. I hate writing papers more than anything in the entire world besides spiders and those websites that show a boring picture until something pops out and makes you pee your pants. (I saw one today and I thought I was going to die.)
Anyway, after a long night of English homework this song starts playing on my iTunes. It has never been as good as it is now, finally being done with everything and just sitting on my couch doing nothing. I hope you enjoy this song like I am now.
Let me just start by saying Ed Sheeran is incredible. And I'm pretty sure that almost all of his songs will end up on this blog because all of his songs are amazing.
But to start it off, this is his most popular song and the one that he is known for. It's about a prostitute who gets beaten and is addicted to cocaine and in the end, ends up dying. Awful right? The way he words the song though, you wouldn't normally initially be able to tell unless you know what it is about. Which I guess now, you do... Anyway, awesome song that has brought about more awareness to drug addictions and the terrible places that, unfortunately people can end up.
This is probably the most tender uncle - nephew song ever. I don't know how many uncle - nephew songs there are out there... but this one beats them all.
Before writing the rest of this post, I have to give my opinions on covers. Pretty much what a cover is, if you don't know, is when a person sings someone else's song that has already been copyrighted.
Now, I'm all for listening to people's covers that they have done on YouTube and even in concerts, but I rarely prefer the cover to the original song.
Except for this one.
Pip and Nathan Parrett were on last season of The Voice (on Team Adam if you were wondering...) Anyway, they became friends and started putting songs on YouTube and their cover of Video Games is by far my favorite. They sound incredible together. The harmony. Ah.
In honor of me buying my ticket for The All-American Rejects tonight, I would like to share one of my favorite songs by them. No matter how many new songs they will ever release, this one will be one of the best.
In the past, I had heard this song in passing and thought it was the weirdest song. Let's just say I had no appreciation for it, until I watched the movie (500) Days of Summer. (If you haven't seen it, go watch it right now). In the movie, Tom is listening to this song in the elevator and Summer recognizes it and tells him how much she loves The Smiths. At that point, there is no going back for Tom. The same was for me, but with the song, not Summer.
It has now taken the great honor of being my ringtone (a big deal). If you haven't already heard this song, get over it's first-listen weirdness and appreciate it :)
To start this blog off right, I figured I should begin with my favorite song.... I say this hesitantly, because, as you will come to see, I really love a lot of songs. But this one is in at least my top three. It puts me in the best mood and makes me so happy. The drums at the beginning and the clapping in the chorus? Yes please. Love it. For future reference if I ever say a different song is my favorite, I'm probably lying. Remember that.
Also - For those who want to avoid a couple swears, skip 20, 25 or so seconds in :)
Have you ever been listening to a song you like on the radio, on Pandora, in a store, or on your own iPod and thought "Wow. I have really great taste in music." Honestly? I have. And when I think that, I want to share it! Now, instead of writing the name of the song down to remember later, or texting my friends telling them they should listen to it, I will be putting it on this blog! I will be updating this blog with all the songs that I love, and new songs people have told me about! Since I will be telling you about what I like to listen to, tell me what you like too! Think a song is the greatest thing? Tell me! Think a song I post about sounds like nails scratching on a chalkboard? I won't be offended if you tell me so! Have a suggestion of something I should listen to? Let me know and I will post about it! I am super excited to share my favorite music with everyone as well as different concerts that I will be going to slash have gone to! Happy listening!
